Washington State AVA Map

The Vineyard Appellations of Washington State

Washington state is the second largest premium wine producing state in the United States, with over 400 wineries and more than 30,000 acres of vineyards. Although Seattle and the area west of the Cascade Mountains are noted for heavy rainfall, the height of the Cascades act as a “rain shadow” holding back the moisture to the extent that the Columbia Valley wine growing region receives an average of 8 inches of rainfall per year. Due to the extreme northerly latitude, the region’s long, hot, sunny days and cool, clear nights allow the vineyards to produce grapes full of complex flavors and aromas.

Columbia Winery sources the grapes for its wines from numerous vineyards in Eastern Washington and produces Vineyard Designated wines from Red Willow, Otis and Wyckoff Vineyards.
