Dark red, with a nose of red fruits, sweet oak, herbs and white pepper. The 2008 Columbia Winery Syrah has a soft, rich texture with flavors of summer berries, smoked meats and a hint of white pepper. Medium long finish.
2008 was a cooler than average growing season with ripening dates 7-10 days later than usual, due to a cool spring that delayed bloom. Syrah was largely unaffected by this weather as it ripens mid-season. As a result, the grapes ripened a little later than usual in cool weather, and the fruit was blessed with good acidity.
