Light golden straw color. On the nose, aromas of orange blossom and lychee express fully ripe fruit. Balanced slightly on the sweet side, the wine’s tangy citrus peel flavors give it some body, leading to a medium-long finish.
2009 proved to be a warm growing season and one with an early harvest. Most of our grapes came in about 7 to 10 days earlier than usual. Gewurztraminer responds well to warm weather, which increases the flowery character in the wine.
The 2009 Columbia Valley Gewurztraminer is a blend from three hallmark Columbia vineyards – Art DenHoed, Red Willow and Phil Church. The grapes were fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel tanks to maximize the fruit’s freshness.
The Columbia Winery 2009 Gewurztraminer is an excellent match for fresh fruit and cheeses, as well as a complement to simple fish and chicken dishes and recipes that include oriental flavors and curry.
